Safety Care for Families: Essential Skills Training
This 4-hour total course provides a specially adapted version of the Safety Care curriculum, tailored to equip parents, family members, and caregivers with practical skills to improve behavior and manage potentially dangerous situations.
Through this engaging and interactive training, participants will learn:
Understanding Behavior: Recognize the reasons behind challenging behaviors.
Maintaining a Supportive and Safe Environment: Create positive spaces for growth and connection.
Reinforcement Strategies: Encourage desirable behaviors effectively.
Verbal De-escalation Techniques: Resolve tense situations calmly and constructively.
Family Safety Planning: Develop a comprehensive plan to keep everyone safe.
WHO THIS TRAINING IS FOR
This training is open to community members aged 16 or older who:
Live with or assist one or more individuals with behavioral, emotional, developmental, or psychiatric disorders in a home or home-like setting.
Work for LifeWays or a provider within the LifeWays network.
This is part two of the two-part training.
To Sign Up: Registration is required to attend. Please fill out the form on “part 1” to sign up for this training. Registration covers part 1 & 2 of the trainings.

OPTIONAL ADVANCED SKILLS TRAINING
If you are looking to advance your expertise after the essential skills training, we have an optional advanced skills training available. The course covers protective and reactive maneuvers for grab and bite situations, safe physical management techniques, recovery and debriefing after crises, and more. Offered at no cost, the 2-hour training is capped at 6 participants and requires annual recertification. This training is open to people 18 or older who completed the Essential Skills course.
